Expert advice from graduate of Karen Pryor's puppy programme (recommended by vets)

I have three core values:
1. I train with compassion and kindness using force-free positive reinforcement.
2. I want training to be fun for you and your dog.
3. I want you to understand the "why" behind positive reinforcement, creating a deeper bond and an enhanced life with your best friend.

Positive reinforcement
Would I run a marathon for a bar of chocolate? "Not a chance", would I do it for a life time supply of dry rose blush? "I am already running".
Positive reinforcement uses methods such as high value treats, toys, praise, games and scent work so that your dog is motivated to repeat the activity and it becomes a joyful journey for you both.
Understanding the ""WHY" behind your dogs behaviour
I don't just launch into training, we consider many things such as:
Is your dog in pain and in need of a vet check? Is your dog getting enough breed specific outlets? Are any environmental factors contributing to your dog's behaviour?

1. Embrace positive methods
I only train a dog with kindness. I do not judge for previous training methods used, so long as you are committed to learning the right way. Punishment based training might seem like a "quick fix" for a certain behaviour, but it simply causes a lot more unrelated behaviours to develop and will damage the bond with your dog. Training with kindness is scientifically proven to be the most effective way to train a dog out of any undesirable behaviours and to teach desirable behaviours. There is no place for punishment based training.
2. Are ready to commit to the process of putting in consistent effort between sessions to help your dog thrive
3. See training as an investment - you are ready to invest in high quality, professional service because you understand that your dogs happiness and your relationship with your dog is worth it
She took such thoughtful care of my dog, treating him with patience, kindness, and genuine enthusiasm. Not only did she help him become more confident and better behaved, but she also helped me understand how to support his progress at home. Every session felt tailored, positive, and professional, and I always felt completely comfortable leaving him in her hands. What stands out most is how much Jemma loves what she does. She celebrates every little win, communicates clearly, and always puts the dog’s well-being first. My pup absolutely adores her — his tail practically falls off from wagging when he sees her! If you’re looking for a trainer who is trustworthy, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated, I couldn’t recommend Jemma more. She’s exceptional at what she does, and your dog will be in the best possible care.

I had such a lovely experience with Jemma. She was so kind and patient with Chunk and he warmed to her straight away. You can tell she really knows what she’s doing and actually keeps up with science-based training rather than the old punishment stuff. I was really impressed with how well she understood him. I’d honestly recommend her to anyone who needs a brilliant trainer for their dog or puppy.

Jemma worked a miracle with Bruce - a rescue dog with mouthing, lead walking and coming back to us when off lead. He came with awful mouthing which caused us great worry. She didn't just work on quick fixes, she put management in place so that my grandchildren were safe at all times. She focused on building up Bruce's confidence and teaching him to be less impulsive through treats and play. She advised a change of diet as she was concerned that diet could be contributing either to his arousal levels or could be causing tummy discomfort. The combination was magic. Even now if Bruce has a chew that doesnt suit him - he can start to mouth but it is now very gentle mouthing and if we ask him to "leave it" he does. He is nothing like the dog who would jump at you head height and cause bruises up your arm. He is a wonderful gentle soul and some family initially suggested he should go back to the rescue - we are all so glad Bruce didn't go back and Jemma helped all the family to understand him and that it was nothing to do with him being aggressive and that he was over aroused, needed to learn to control his impulses and also needed a change of diet and to be careful with an extra treats.

SOME REVIEWS FROM RECENT PUPPY CLASSES
